Since taking over as Chief Postmaster General of Maharashtra Circle on 23.01.2013, I am interacting with all walks of life with different segments like Government,   Corporate, multinationals, private, education, insurance, banking, financial, print and electronic media etc.  It revealed that majority of them are still having traditional old image of Post offices in their mind.  Many of these carry impression that India Post does only collection, transmission and delivery of mail and Small Savings work through its vast network. But the fact is that, with the passage of time, India Posts has came a long way and transformed itself into a Technology enabled, self reliant market leader riding on its vast network with unbeatable reach, goodwill and credibility.     Traditional Post Office is becoming “Post Mall” in the days to come. I felt it necessary to bring these changes to the notice of one and all. For this I thought to bring out a short film because it is considered more powerful medium to convey the message.
Post Offices in the current era are now “Business Outlets”which are not only doing mail and Savings Bank business but wide range of products and services are now available for use of public as well as Corporate houses in a customized manner to boost their business leveraging the vast network of 1,55,000 Post Offices across the country. India Post is now all set to provide end to end solutions to the Corporate and Business Groups offering Business Post, Media Post, Speed post, Bill Mail Service, Retail post, ePost, ePayment etc in a customized manner to suit their requirement. I feel this change and development is required to be shared with all groups in a professional manner.
Keeping this objective in mind, I worked on this project and brought out short films targeting different segments. Third of such film brought out is “Not Just Mails”. This film has been prepared to sensitize and educate Corporate and Business houses and focuses on “Journey of India Posts and its future plans”.  The CD containing the short film “Not Just Mails” was released by Shri Jayantkumar Banthia, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Maharashtra, in the presence of Shri A V Joshi, an Indian Postal Service Officer, currently Textile Commissioner as Guest of Honor and other dignitaries on the dais on “Business Development Day” on 14.10.2013 in a befitting function. This video is available on YouTube with the link . If you like the video please share it with your nears and dears. Otherwise, please offer your comments to enable me to improve it further.  Here are some glimpses of function in which the short film was released.

Dear Chief PostMaster General, on a recent visit to the Juhu Post Office, I was told that I would need to provide a copy of my PAN card in order to send a letter by Registered post to the United Kingdom. I can't understand the need for such a document for a transaction costing Rs 150 or thereabouts. No proper explanation on the requirement provided either by the desk clerk. Please let me know if such a requirement exists and if not then procedure to log a formal complaint against the postoffice master of Juhu.

Amazing that if a person does not have a PAN card then cannot avail postal services?

An aggrieved citizen of India voicing his displeasure on shoddy public service.

Thank you.
